Eligibility

Who can apply?

Scholarships are open to any Native American across the United States AND any Non-Native student who has graduated from the Coachella Valley, full-time post-secondary or graduate student with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher who also meets at least ONE of the following criteria:

  •  Applicant is an employee in good standing or the dependent of an employee of any entity of the Twenty-Nine Palms Band of Mission Indians. (Spotlight 29 Casino, Tortoise Rock Casino, Twenty-Nine Palms Gaming Commission, Twenty-Nine Palms Band of Mission Indians Tribal Administration, and Twenty-Nine Palms Tribal EPA)

  • Applicant is an enrolled member of a Federally-Recognized Native American Indian Tribe. Must provide proof of enrollment.

  • Applicant is either a current resident of or has graduated from a high school in either the Coachella Valley or the Morongo Basin.

List and Procedures

  • Print clearly, complete all sections and sign in all required places. Incomplete or illegible forms may not be considered. 
  • A personal essay describing your history and your long-term goals. It is important to include why higher education is important to achieving these goals and how your extra curricular interests and community service relate to your education and career goals. The essay must be a minimum of 1,000 words , typed, 12pt font, double-spaced with word count. Applicant's name must be on the top left corner of all pages. 
  • A list of honors, activities and community service not to exceed one page. 
  • Two (2) letters of recommendation dated within the last six months and signed. Letters from family members will not be accepted. 
  • Proof of acceptance or enrollment as a full-time student at an accredited institution. Acceptable documents include an acceptance letter from your school, or a print out of your currently enrolled courses from the institution's website indicating full-time status. 
  • Your most recent official transcripts either regular mail, sealed by your registrar's office mailed to us directly. Or if your institution has the capability to send official transcripts by secured email to mmarroquin@29palmsbomi-nsn.gov There most likely will be a fee for either service depending on your institution. 
  • A copy of your FAFSA application. ALL pages must be included. Please black out the social security numbers on the report.
  • Page one of your Adjusted Gross Income (AGI)
  • A professional looking head shot photograph (4"x 6") of yourself alone with your name printed on the back.
